BRAIN CRAMP ALERT: An earlier version of this went out where I kept referring to Pete Alonso as a “Panda Bear” instead of, obviously, “Polar Bear.” So I had the headline as “Panda Express,” which totally makes sense, rather than “Polar Express” which also totally makes sense. Funny. Sorry for the double email!

OK, so that was a terrific baseball game last night! Terry Francona to the Reds! A Farhan retrospective! Pitchers who might start twice in the Division Series! Bob Costas going back to the 1970s! Also, somebody passes Joe Montana on the all-time list. Let’s go!

The Polar Express

Great baseball games—truly great baseball games—are often multiple games in one. Thursday night’s Mets-Brewers WTA wild-card game was just such a game. You had:

Game 1: A fierce pitching duel between New York starter Jose Quintana, who has been pitching pretty much forever*, and Milwaukee rookie Tobias Myers. Quintana threw six scoreless, Myers threw five, and this game went into the bottom of the seventh inning at 0-0. It was tense!
