With nothing else really happening today—and me just sitting in the Philadelphia airport with nothing better to do—this seems as good a time as any to talk some random baseball and other stuff.

Quick reminder: I’ll be in the New York City area this week. I’ll be at the JCC Rockland in West Nyack on Thursday, at 2 p.m., to talk some WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL and whatever else comes up. Registration is free.

Then, on Friday, 7 p.m., I’ll be at the beautiful Spring Lake (N.J.) Community Theater for Thunder Road Books, and I’ll be in conversation with the founder of Thunder Road Films, Basil Iwanyk.

OK, so here was my prediction for the eight players on the Classic Era ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame:

  • Doc Adams: Baseball pioneer.

  • Dick Allen: Prodigious slugger.

  • John Donaldson: Overlooked ace.

  • Vic Harris: Negro leagues titan.

  • Tommy John: Big winner, surgery namesake.

  • Thurman Munson: Yankee captain and red ass.

  • Dave Parker: Boppin’ bat.

  • Luis Tiant: Whirling pitching delight.
